Showtime Documentary Films acquires the rights to CUSP

SHOWTIME documentaries TODAY announced that it has acquired the worldwide rights to CUSP, the feature documentary from directors Parker Hill and Isabel Bethencourt, winners of the Emerging Filmmaker Special Jury Prize at the Sundance® Film Festival, where the film premiered earlier this year. Set in a small military town in Texas, CUSP pursues three wild-minded teenage girls as they experience a feverish dream summer, when teenage restrictions collide with growing desire for personal agency. SHOWTIME is scheduled for a theatrical release before a network premiere later this year. The announcement was made by Vinnie Malhotra, Executive Vice President, Non-Fiction Programming, Showtime Networks Inc.

“We are delighted to be working with Parker and Isabel, who, like their subjects, are at the forefront with this moving and gripping feature debut,” said Malhotra. “The raw intimacy they capture and the stories they get from their subjects are incredible when you consider where they are at in their careers.”

Shot in truth style, CUSP captures authentic moments of female friendship while examining what it means to grow up in a culture of toxic masculinity. While the girls’ experiences are completely unique to their upbringing, CUSP is also a surprisingly universal coming-of-age tale – and realistic, at the same time funny, tragic, complicated and touching.

“We are honored to partner with Vinnie and the team at SHOWTIME to share CUSP with audiences around the world,” said Hill and Bethencourt. “Their fearless dedication to building bold, flawless stories is inspiring. We are eternally grateful to the incredible young women who have shared their lives with us, and we hope that their bravery and strength will inspire others to feel less alone and to express themselves. “

“This is the kind of movie we love – fearless, honest and flawless – and SHOWTIME is the perfect partner to bring this story to the world,” said Jenifer Westphal, Founder and CEO of Wavelength, and Executive Producer, CUSP .

“CUSP is a profound cinematographic work. What Isabel and Parker have accomplished is extraordinary, ”said Chris Columbus, Chairman of Maiden Voyage Pictures and Executive Producer of CUSP. “The cinema-truth look at the lives of these young women is emotionally devastating and unlike anything I have ever seen in an American film. At Maiden Voyage, we are honored to be the executive producers of CUSP. are delighted to partner with SHOWTIME. “
