National Geographic Documentary Films Sets December 3 Release Date for TORN from Director Max Lowe, Producer Chris Murphy, and Award Winning Producers Simon Chinn and Jonathan Chinn’s Lightbox | Business

National Geographic Documentary Films announced today that TORN UP, by National Geographic photographer and explorer Max Lowe and producer Chris Murphy, as well as award-winning Lightbox producers Simon Chinn and Jonathan Chinn, will open in select theaters on December 3, 2021. The film premiered at the 2021 Telluride Film Festival and won the award for best feature film at BANFF. Released in partnership with Dada Films, TORN UP, which The Hollywood Reporter called a âremarkable story told with admirable intimacy,â captures Lowe-Ankers’ intense personal journey through love and loss with his eldest son, Max, behind the lens.

On October 5, 1999, Alex was tragically lost alongside cameraman and fellow mountaineer David Bridges in a fatal avalanche on the slopes of the Tibetan mountain, Shishapangma. Alex’s best friend and climbing partner, famous mountaineer Conrad Anker, miraculously survived the avalanche. After the tragedy, Anker and Alex’s widow Jennifer fell in love, got married, and Anker stepped in to help raise Alex’s three sons.
In 2016, 17 years after their deaths, the bodies of Lowe and Bridges were discovered, and Lowe’s family traveled to the remote Himalayan mountains to retrieve the remains of the men.
