IFFO unveils the 2021 feature films lineup – Apartment613
Two are needed for the IFFO, the Ottawa International Film Festival, which failed to launch as planned in March 2020. With a busy digital lineup, the festival now runs online from March 11-21. 2021.
The new event is hosted by the Canadian Film Institute, the producers of the Ottawa International Animation Festival, the European Union Film Festival and pretty much every other film festival in town (not really , here is the list of CFI festivals – it would be easier to make a list of Ottawa film festivals that are not produced by CFI!).
This year’s lineup includes 21 feature films and a program of short films yet to be announced. New films will be released throughout the event and will be available for viewing for 48 hours.
A handful of movies, like Beans by Indigenous filmmaker Tracey Deer, Coalesce (The Tributaries), It must be heaven and Downstream from Kinshasa stand out from the festival circuit, each having been selected for the TIFF or the Cannes film festival in 2020.
Mouth is a remarkable play because you might have seen it live in Ottawa in 2016. It is an adaptation of an independent play that was performed at the Undercurrents Festival at the Arts Court Theater. Mouth Director Patricia Rozema is also one of the IFFO speakers.
“We have selected a selection of outstanding films and created a Festival experience that will be a much needed distraction for audiences in March,” said Tom McSorley, Chief Executive Officer of CFI. “We can’t wait for people to participate. We encourage the public to get a pass and immerse themselves in IFFO.
Pass holders can also join IFFO curators and filmmakers in IFFO’s Virtual Cinema Club to discuss festival films throughout the festival (March 11, 13, 15, 17, 19 ). These online hangouts will bring a live festival feeling to attendees by providing them the opportunity to casually chat about movies.
We are talking about take-out. IFFO’s social media teases a take-out series with chefs and restaurants in Ottawa. We will notify you when a list of restaurants is available, but you can be sure it will appear in Apartment613’s Takeaway chat chronicle next month!
