DALLAS, TX – (EINPresswire) – Interest in acting for Giovannie cruz first started school in Killeen, Texas, then went to the University of North Texas where she earned a degree in opera. Today, she appears on television shows such as “Queen Sugar”, “Queen of the South” and “Walker”. In 2019, his wildest dream came true when Cruz landed back-to-back roles, the first in James gunnthe DC Universe movie “The Suicide Squad”, and later in Lisa Joy‘s Hugh Jackman-led, “Reminiscence”. Both films are hitting theaters and on the HBOmax streaming platform this month.

“I remember going to an audition when I got the email that I booked an ‘Untitled DC Project’ from James Gunn,” Cruz recalls. “At the time, there were rumors that he had written a new Suicide Squad and I knew if his name was on it it would be major. Then I don’t know why, but after I panicked I joked to my friend, “It’s cool and all, but I’ll know I got there when I work with Hugh Jackman.”

The joke stayed with Cruz shortly after receiving an invitation to read for a project from Lisa Joy. “They never tell you what the project is when it’s really important,” she says, “but they always mention who the writers and producers are.”

It is thanks to research that Cruz found Joy’s pitch for “Reminiscence” in a Deadline article from January 2019. “I devoured it”, she reflects. “Then I came across two names that she wanted as protagonists: Rebecca Furguson and Hugh Jackman!

Cruz knew that the role was intended for him. She auditioned remotely for both films, recording with the help of a friend at her home in Dallas, Texas.

Over the past decade, self-recording has become a common audition tool for films shot outside of Hollywood, as large studio projects in places like Georgia and New Orleans have increased their audience. need for talent located at regional level.

“Ever since I started focusing on acting onscreen, I felt Hollywood was changing and I could do it from anywhere,” says Cruz. “Honestly, I love Texas. I love having a home here with my family and going to Los Angeles or Atlanta to do what I love. So with the help of technology and my amazing agents [Action Talent Agency & Linda McAlister Talent], I feel like I hit the jackpot.

The icing on the cake for Cruz appeared when she went to her childhood home for a private opening of “The Suicide Squad”. Sitting in the theater where she would once go to escape has come full circle in the whole experience. “Growing up in a small military town, we had two things, cinema and football, and I was never a football fan. “

Cruz hopes one day to be a staple of a long-standing television series and that she wants to remind little Latin girls around the world, “Si Se Puede”.
